The game's primary obstacles are hordes of enemies surrounding the player, so each attack to achieves two goals:

  1. Have utility in managing large groups of enemies

  2. Incentivize offensive strategies

These 4 attacks provide a variety of choice in how to deal with enemies, while maintaining a consistent fast-paced aggressive feel, while providing a visual spectacle.

The level I designed is a meaty tutorial/vertical slice, with branching pathways to introduce and subsequently test the player on the various combat options.

It's wide open so the player has room to circle enemy clusters and see how far enemies get knocked back during combat.

It uses a key system, having the player search for enemies and hiding spots that have keys to open the next area. This requires the player to engage with enemies more, while also having rooms with health bottles peppered throughout to give breaks to the action.
